4th May: the week at Read
Duke of Edinburgh Ceremony at Selby Abbey
Proud Read Year 10's, 11's and Sixth Formers clutch their hard earned certificates
Going for Gold
18 Pupils and Ex pupils were presented with their D of E Certificates in the Annual District Presentation held at Selby Abbey on Wednesday 29th April. The certificates were awarded by Mr Neil Forrest, Regional Director of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The musical interlude was a sensational 3 part harmony arrangement of 'Wonderful World' given by 3 of our Gold candidates, Bryony Chapman, Megan Hughes and Hannah Torn. Thank you once more for doing yourselves and the school proud.
GOLD (6th Form and above)
Well done to all of you listed for sticking it out on cold dark nights under cover of nothing more than canvas. Special thanks should also go to your guides and mentors; Mr Gisbourne and Mrs Rothwell-Wood for giving up their time and energy. Team work, an unbreakable spirit and a great physical constitution are all required for the D of E Awards. That is why universities and employers recognise their value more than anything else other than your academic qualifications.
The Read-Stone Cowboys
By Mrs Ainley
Read pupils rocked out last Friday to live country music and line dancing followed by a neon disco rave. Never let it be said that we are not a diverse school!
The PFA Posse: Mrs Davison, Mrs Radcliffe, Mrs McLellan and Mrs Bond.
The event, organized by our fabulous PFA and generously supported by parents who ran everything from BBQ to refreshments, was well attended and was voted a huge success by both day and boarding pupils. A rodeo bull provided an additional challenge of tenacity and dexterity, with the lure of ‘twenty five bucks’ to win providing a good incentive to would-be cowboys. Miss Newman’s lunchtime line dancing classes paid off as the girls showed off their moves and, by popular request, these will now continue on Mondays. A last chance to party before the summer examinations and a brilliant way to end the week. Having created the ‘Neon Cowboy’ genre, we look forward to more Read social events soon.
Take your partner by the hand! A real multi-cultural cowboy hoedown!
